Week 9 – March 31 – April 4

Article 1 – As Duke Dining launches sustainable meals initiative, students remain uncertain of its impact – https://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2025/04/duke-university-connected-plates-students-remain-unaware-question-initiatives-impact-duke-dining-sustainable-meal-options

This article was short but had a lot to offer. This was mostly going over a dining initiative that Duke launch this past spring semester and whether it is working or even know. It is interesting due to many people that this does effect. I would say about at least 90% of students each at a campus while they are for classes or other programs. With many more people eating specific diets or have restrictions understanding what is in your food but also where it comes from, is more of interests. Though within the article it shows that students may not understand or know about this program by name. There is good reviews on food and local scored stuff but it still has room for improvement like most programs, better advertisement.

Article 2 – Leading the way: Alice M. Baldwin, a visionary for women at Duke – https://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2025/03/duke-university-alice-m-baldwin-womens-history-month-womens-college-first-woman-full-faculty-member-visionary-1924

This was a profile on Alice M. Baldwin, this was interesting profile because on there is connection to Maine. She grew up in Lewiston, Maine and came back for college at Bates. She was women leader, especially within her time. She founder and dean of the Women College that became apart of Duke. She help create a place for women at the Trinity and made many strides to continue the involvement of women on campus, including with journalism. She helped the women in the college make their own paper because they did not feel represented within the Trinity’s paper. This pushed the men to include them in their paper and made huge change. Also, she created a few different majors for the college and has scholarship for women that represent her values and what she offered to the college to fester more women leaders.
