Profile Story Reflection
My profile and how I was going to go about it the biggest thing was obviously picking the person that I wanted to do my profile on. Originally I wanted to do my profile on my catering boss but as I was looking through other profiles as well as hearing others’ ideas I realized my profile was too personal and I would have more of a bias while writing it. So, I switched my way of thinking to being somebody who I had minimal interaction with but will most likely have more interactions with and has a significance to the college. That had me land on Dean of the College of Business Norman O’Reilly. As I was going through the developing stages I wanted to First find people who had interactions with Norman O’Reilly before interviewing himself. This was to try to start the profile with a more outside less biased view of O’Reilly. First I emailed students and staff on what they thought about it and this allowed me to develop the profile with their comments and then once I was able to interview him it allowed me to add his pieces into it. This gave me a profile that was less cheerleading and more of an authentication to what he said. Also the quotes that I gathered from students and staff were very much catering to what he had already said beforehand so the quotes that were picked out and brought about were done before interviewing him which only corroborated what he said about himself. Also when it came down to work shopping I enjoyed the workshop experience because it allowed me to take an editorial role in profiles and my classmates’ pieces of work. although I felt that my workshop about my paper was less editorial because my groupmates did not find anything wrong or anything that I would need to change which is good but also bad because it left me in a weird spot of trying to make my profile better. overall I really enjoyed the experience of making this profile and therefore the potential of having this published within the bolt as well.
